"Closure"

"Closure" -A said. "You need closure to forget it".This was said after a rather disappointing incident. I don't understand the word.Does reliving a bad memory or incident provide relief? It doesn't to me. I do not like to analyse the bad in me. It is like scraping a wound with a sharp knife. The dictionary gives the meaning of closure as-
An often comforting or satisfying sense of finality
I can recall a few incidents where I needed a sense of finality as according to the definition. I needed to know where I stand. But unfortunately, communication is not my strong points. The bad feelings remained or were swept under the carpet, whichever was more convenient. My methodology for such situations is blocking or rather blacking out all the bad that happens to me. I've always admired people who have stood firm in the face of disappointment. I'm not one amongst them. I do try to and I'm sure nobody would disagree that I've handled failures quite well after nearly six months here. I'm taking the liberty of stealing a quote from a friend's blog (I hope you don't mind)-
If you can not afford to lose, you have no business playing the game.

My rejoinder is another quote-
Men are born to succeed, not fail

I was re-reading Baroness Orczy's "The Scarlet Pimpernel". There is a chapter about the secret orchard between two siblings.I'm mentioning this because we all have our secret orchards in which we take the liberty to laugh, cry, tease and humiliate our failures as well as others'. I may afford to lose the set point outwardly but I sure can't miss out on the match point. Because the meter inside me will not allow me to sit still. As for closures, well closure is not something we get as and when we want it. Till we achieve that why not measure my disappointments in my secret orchards where I'm all alone and where I'm free?

I disagree ==>[I = nobody :)]...until and unless I know what you regard as your failures, how can I agree to that one?

"""Does reliving a bad memory or incident provide relief? It doesn't to me. ...Till we achieve that why not measure my disappointments in my secret orchards where I'm all alone and where I'm free?"""

I don't understand this part. When you measure your dissapointments, aren't you reliving the incident? And I can assure you that you either aren't reliving it in your secret orchard or you are letting A into it. Take your pick.

Regarding your quote, in view of your rejoinder, the use of the word "failures" does not fit. Or is it that the quote applies only to men? :-)

With that, it's "Closure" Time for this comment of mine.
